Hello
My name is Ivona Hristova.
Born and raised in Bulgaria, I've lived in The Netherlands and Colombia where I also met my husband. I have always been ambitious to make the world a better place, but it took some years, trials and errors until I found how I can do that. I worked in the non-for-profit sector for several years, aiding projects in environment, human rights and interculturalism before I admitted I wasn't as passionate for any of those. in 2023, I did the big leap and started the path of teaching yoga and creating art as a way to give more of that beauty to others and the world.

I now live in Bulgaria where I keep following my mission and trusting the way ahead.
My Story
I am an ambitious soul that once wanted to save the world. Now, I want to make it a prettier and nicer place to live.

Back in 2014, I started with the whole concept of "saving the world" through all possible charitable work. I studied Public Administration (sounds boring af, but I actually loved it! it is about the management of all (inter)national government and non-government structures) & even before graduation I was well set on saving the world. I wanted the most ambitious projects - war refugees, peacemaking, saving the environment, I mean - all of it! And in 2021-2022, I did it all: refugees & human rights; environmental education: interculturalism - AT ONCE. Sure, it was a lot, but what bothered me more was that the effort & money we put barely made any difference. It was just startling how quickly human lives & natural habitats were ruined, and how much effort & resources were needed for making the bare minimum positive impact.

So I left. I signed up for my yoga teacher training & bought my iPad and Apple Pencil.

Yoga has really been the one non-violent thing I've done to my body. In 12+ years, I've been through of all types of movement: endless cardio, 5+ years of martial arts, soft acrobatics and anything else in between. I trained for the "thigh gap", I've done endless crunches to get these abs. My knees suffered for 2+ years of unsustainable cardio, and I've been more bruised than an autumn apple by daily martial arts routines. In the landscape of exhaustion, pushing a weak body and burning it out, yoga was a breath of fresh air. I learned that you can be gentle to the body and still maintain it strong, flexible and healthy. However, as a movement facilitator myself, I have struggled with finding time and motivation to get the full hour of practice, or to invest in fancy home equipment.
As a result, I now take the physical aspect of yoga and transform it with elements from mobility, soft calisthenics and acrobatics, to create and teach a movement practice that is creative, gentle to the body and respectful for one's busy schedule. I want to make sports and movement realistic and accessible, removing the pressure of performance and high intensity off the table.

Illustration is my way to rebel against grey cities, boring office spaces, characters who only live in your imagination. Art is the materialization of the magic inside of us. It is the mirror of the fairytale life is. For a long time, I only longed for time and tools to draw, but it always felt like a selfish little hobby when the world needed to be saved. Even though I was good at it, I kept denying myself the time to do it. Until the urge to draw was louder than my ego stories. It took more than a year after I bought my iPad to actually start regularly drawing the things I was passionate about, and another year until I could say "maybe I can call all that a portfolio". I am still shy about my art, and honestly, I wish I drew more than I actually do, but we getting there :)
